On a mission to make local education more inclusive, the Integrated International School (IIS) was founded by clinical psychologist, Dr Vanessa von Auer. Eschewing a “one-size-fits-all” approach to education, IIS prides itself on inclusivity and offers a mainstream and supportive
approach for children aged 3 to 18 years old in an inclusive setting. At IIS, we understand that success is not limited to academics alone, but encompasses the holistic development of students as well. Read on to learn how we provide learning support as one of the top inclusive schools in Singapore
As an inclusive international school in Singapore, we are committed to embracing individuality and encouraging uniqueness. We welcome students with diverse abilities, learning styles, and preferences. For those requiring more personalised attention, we offer tailored individual education plans while ensuring their integration into the classroom environment. This inclusive education approach allows every student to thrive academically, become a valued member of our school community, and develop essential social skills for navigating friendships and relationships effectively
Our holistic, tailored syllabus based on the British curriculum (Pearson Edexcel) sets us apart from other international schools in Singapore. By taking on an individualised approach, we ensure a diversified learning experience that accommodates different preferences and abilities. The British curriculum is one of the few recognising that each child is different, and the curriculum is therefore designed to be flexible.
More than just a curriculum that focuses on goals and achievement, it is also student-centred and well-balanced. It provides leeway for educators to develop bespoke programmes to accommodate each student while challenging them to achieve more. The British curriculum has helped children of schooling age establish a solid foundation in knowledge, understanding, skills and values. Aiming to nurture well-rounded and responsible global citizens, this curriculum also encourages growth outside the classroom through the prioritisation of extracurricular activities.
At the Integrated International School, our dedicated team of teachers, specialists and therapists collaborate to create customised learning plans for children with learning and behavioural needs. Our in-house therapists work closely with teachers daily to ensure each child's needs are met, while speech and occupational therapists provide on-campus sessions for students during school hours when a child needs additional support. We also maintain a high teacher-to-student ratio (maximum of 1:6) to ensure that teachers can effectively support our students.
One of our students, Prabir, has shown significant academic and personal growth during his time at IIS. The supportive and inclusive environment has helped him identify and develop his strengths while addressing his weaknesses. Prabir’s parents are also impressed with our balanced approach to education which emphasises both academic learning and emotional intelligence, equipping students with the knowledge and skills for future success while helping them understand and manage their emotions. You can find more about Prabir's and his parents' positive experiences at IIS here.
At IIS, our students’ well-being and happiness comes first, which is why we provide dedicated and unique spaces for everyone to use on campus. One of our most loved spaces is our Petopia Cove, which provides a therapeutic environment for students to reduce their anxiety or restlessness while interacting with the animals. Pet Assisted Therapy is a scientifically proven method for enhancing mental health and learning outcomes. Under the guidance of trained staff, students at IIS interact with animals, which fosters a sense of comfort, companionship, and emotional resilience. You can read more about it here!
In addition, our in-house support staff have private suites to provide counselling and speech and naturalistic Applied Behaviour Analysis (ABA) / Naturalistic Behaviour Intervention (NBI) therapy sessions. Isabelle’s parents chose IIS due to its genuine personal approach, and like that IIS has a high teacher-to-student ratio while providing dedicated support services like Speech and Occupational Therapy within school hours. You can read more about Isabelle and her parents' positive experiences at IIS here.
We also offer extracurricular activities. These ECAs play a vital role in helping our students cultivate their motor skills and foster relationships with other students outside of their grades. One of our students, Tenzin, is a big fan of the ECAs that we offer. He loves the variety of hands-on after-school extracurricular activities that expose him to the arts and sciences. You can read more about his experience here.
