Coding, Science & Football – The Perfect After-School Plan for Your Child

Extracurricular Activities are the building blocks for your child’s social development. On paper, they’re fantastic for enhancing further education applications as well as discovering potential career paths, but what we at IIS, as an international school, care more about are the soft skills they instil. Participating in extracurricular activities plays a significant role in helping children develop leadership and teamwork, improve their time management, while boosting their social skills and overall confidence. In short, they are the key to ensuring your child is receiving the holistic and well-rounded development they need outside of the classroom.

Our Current Extracurricular Activities Offerings

At IIS, we offer a diverse selection of extracurricular activities designed to engage and challenge students, fostering creativity, teamwork, and problem-solving skills. These activities take place after school from 2 PM to 3 PM, allowing students to explore their interests while making new friends.

Monday: Coding

We are excited to introduce Coding as an extracurricular activity for Term 2, 2025! Coding is more than just programming—it is a powerful tool for enhancing problem-solving, logical thinking, and creativity. Throughout the Term, students will learn coding fundamentals, including sequences, loops, and algorithms, while creating interactive projects such as animations, simple games, and storytelling through code. Using the beginner-friendly “Games” platform, students will develop technical skills while tapping into their creativity, setting a foundation for future technological fluency.

Tuesday: Super Squad

We are proud to launch Super Squad as part of our Term 2 extracurricular offerings! This leadership-based ECA empowers students to become positive role models within the school community. Through engaging, hands-on activities, students will develop essential skills such as teamwork, communication, and initiative. From leading school-wide campaigns to supporting peers, Super Squad members will gain confidence, a sense of responsibility, and the ability to create meaningful change. It’s the perfect opportunity for students who are passionate about helping others and making a difference.

Wednesday: Examinations Clinic

Our Examinations Clinic is a supportive academic-focused ECA designed to help students prepare for upcoming assessments in a calm and structured environment. Held weekly, this clinic provides small-group revision, targeted support, and effective study strategies tailored to individual learning needs. Students will review key content, reinforce core concepts, and develop exam techniques across a range of subjects. Whether it’s extra practice or clarifying difficult topics, the Examinations Clinic is an ideal space to boost confidence and academic performance.

Thursday: Science

We are excited to offer Science as an ECA this Term for students who are curious about how the world works! This hands-on, inquiry-based programme allows students to explore scientific concepts through fun and engaging experiments. Each session will focus on different areas of science—from chemical reactions and forces to biology and environmental science—encouraging curiosity and critical thinking. By the end of the Term, students will not only develop a deeper understanding of scientific processes but also gain confidence in conducting experiments and sharing their discoveries.

Friday: Football

For students with a passion for sports, our Football session offers the perfect opportunity to develop athleticism, teamwork, and sportsmanship. This Term, we’ll focus on full-scale football matches, incorporating offensive passing drills, quick decision-making relays, and dribbling exercises to refine ball control and agility. As students progress, they will put these skills into practice during full-length matches, helping them build confidence on the field. By the end of the Term, students will be well-prepared to take on more advanced football challenges.

Why Extracurricular Activities Matter for Children

Participating in extracurricular activities offers far-reaching benefits that extend beyond the classroom. They also help children develop essential life skills, including leadership, problem-solving, and teamwork. Studies further show that participating in structured activities improves focus, discipline, and cognitive abilities, positively influencing academic performance. Perhaps most importantly for many concerned parents, engaging in activities outside of class helps children build friendships, communication skills, and resilience that promote a balanced lifestyle, reduce stress, and enhance self-expression.

Supporting Busy Expat Parents

For expat families in Singapore, managing school schedules while juggling work commitments can be challenging. Our after-school programmes offer a convenient solution for parents who may need extra time before picking up their children. These activities ensure that students are engaged in productive, skill-enhancing experiences while parents manage their schedules stress-free.
